Knowing who is in Ames National Laboratory spaces is crucial for protecting personnel, research, and equipment while ensuring proper vetting. If you’re hosting a subcontractor, complete the Visitor Request Form in ServiceNow at least one week in advance. Non-U.S. citizens must also complete the Ames Lab 473 process before arrival.
With the Badging Office now open, all subcontractors should check in at 105 TASF instead of the Guard Room. They must present a Real ID or other acceptable forms of identification. The Badging team will be prepared thanks to your advance request.
On May 7, 2025, the REAL ID Act was enacted nationwide. Since Ames National Laboratory is a federal facility, visitors and subcontractors who do not have a REAL ID-compliant state-issued ID must show their passport or other acceptable form of identification.
REAL ID-compliant cards have a star marking on the upper top portion of the card. Here are answers to frequently asked questions about REAL ID.

Subcontractors no longer need to return to the Badging Office in person to turn in their badges. If a subcontractor will be off-site for a week or longer, they are required to return their badge. Badges can be dropped off at the Badging Office (105 TASF) or placed in one of the designated drop boxes located in TASF, Wilhelm, Spedding, and Metals Development. When they come back they can pick their badge up in the Badging Office (105 TASF).

QR codes have been installed next to the drop boxes in all buildings to streamline the subcontractor sign-in process. All subcontractors are required to scan the QR code and complete the daily sign-in each day they are on-site. This ensures accurate records for security and accountability.
