Research tells us employees prefer to hear from their direct supervisor when a change will impact them. Here are resources to help you guide your people through this badging transition.
Instruct your employees who will get PIV Badges to keep using their ISUCard for door access and to wear it for identification.
They can get an Ames Lab Badge if they prefer not to display their ISUCard, but they’ll still need a PIV Badge when it’s their turn.
We have not started issuing PIV Badges to current employees yet. We will notify each employee when it is their turn to start the process to get their PIV Badge.
It will take at least a year to get all eligible current employees their PIV Badges. It is okay to keep using ISUCards during that time. Employees who are eligible for PIV Badges don’t need an Ames Lab Badge.

The Badging Project team is happy to come to your existing division, department, or group meeting or set up a special meeting to answer questions and collect feedback. Reach out to us at badgingoffice@ameslab.gov to schedule.
Often for PIV Badge background checks, the employee's supervisor will get a letter and short form in the mail from the Department of Defense. This is a legitimate request asking the supervisor to verify that their employee works for Ames Lab and that they don’t have concerns with that employee having access to the Lab or its data. If you are a supervisor and receive one of these letters, you should complete the form and return it as instructed. If you have questions, HR is prepared to help. An example of the blank form and a picture of the mailing envelope are below.
Now that employees are receiving Ames Lab Badges as well as ISUCards, here are some tips to make this process smoother.
Bring all new employees to the Badging Office (105 TASF) on their first day to get their Ames Lab Badge. Door access to Ames Lab buildings will be connected to their Ames Lab Badge, not their ISUCard.
When an employee leaves, supervisors are responsible for ensuring their Ames Lab Badge is returned to the Badging Office.
